“Poor Man’s Brunello”. The younger Sangiovese Grosso vines from Montalcino are used for Rosso di Montalcino, before they graduate to use in the iconic Brunello wines. You get all the elegance of 100% Sangiovese Grosso, just not the full power. The “Grosso” means a larger grape, so lesser skin to pulp ration and therefore lesser tannin than Chianti or other Tuscan based Sangioveses. Just beyond medium-bodied; try this before you graduate to Brunello.
